Woman Killed Trying to Cross Freeway

Posted: Updated:

A pedestrian was struck and killed by a vehicle Wednesday night on the freeway in Mission Valley.  It happened after 6 p.m. in the southbound lanes of Interstate 163, just south of Friars Road.

The California Highway Patrol is investigating to try to find out the person's identity.  The victim is described as a white female between the ages of 40 and 50.  Officers found a bag with many belongings, including books.  They say it's possible she was a transient.

The woman was struck by at least three vehicles.  All of the drivers involved in the accident stopped at the scene to assist and none face charges.

Three lanes of traffic were shut down for nearly two hours, backing traffic up for at least two miles during the rush hour commute.
