VISTA, Calif. (CBS 8/CNS) -- San Diego County sheriff’s officials said a young skateboarder was killed Sunday when he rode into the path of an oncoming car and was struck.

Christopher Toraason Pompa was pronounced dead at the scene of the 1 a.m. collision in the 1600 block of Hacienda Drive, the San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office reported.

Witnesses told deputies that Pompa was riding westbound in the right eastbound lane and swerved in the path of a BMW traveling in the left eastbound lane.

The driver of the BMW was not arrested, but an investigation was underway.

Pompa was described by the Medical Examiner's Office as a college student who lived with his parents in Vista.
