A motorist who allegedly was under the influence of depressants when she swerved into a bicycle lane and onto a curb on a Poway street, killing an oncoming pedestrian, pleaded not guilty today to a charge of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated.

SAN DIEGO, Calif. (CBS 8) - The family of a Poway mother is speaking out about her death and the woman accused of running her down.

Kristen Bedard, 36, was struck by a car as she walked on the sidewalk of Community Road on her way to work Monday morning.

The woman driving the car that hit her is 44-year-old Becky Anderson.  Investigators say she was under the influence of prescription drugs including methadone, Valium and a muscle relaxer.

Anderson plead not guilty to a charge of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated Wednesday morning. She faces 10 years in state prison if she is convicted.

A preliminary hearing was set for Dec. 10.

According to her father Richard Bedard, Kristen walked to work every day to save money to take care of her children.

"Her priority in life was her children, period," her father said.

Anderson is expected in court Wednesday morning for an arraignment on charges of vehicular manslaughter and driving while intoxicated.

"Her time will come in court, and she'll have to live with what she did the rest of her life," Richard Bedard said. "Obviously she shouldn't have been driving that day."

A fund has been set up to help Bedard's two teenage children.
