On Donner, On Blitzen, Online for Cyber Monday

Posted: Updated:

SAN DIEGO, Calif. (CBS 8) - If you're one of the millions of Americans looking to take advantage of online bargains today, there's still time. Some retailers are making their discounts obvious, but for others, you have to know where to look.

If Black Friday was a bust because long lines scared you off, hunting and pecking for presents may be your answer. After all, Bloomingdale's will give 50 percent off everything.

The bad news is, type "Cyber Monday" into Google and you'll get 32 million hits. Most of the offers are for free shipping. To really save money, you need to know where you're going.

We like what we're seeing at CyberMonday.com because they allow you to compare the prices from different retailers.

We found solid savings at Sixth Avenue Electronics, with a Tom Tom GPS at 61 percent off and only $76. Another GPS unit was less than $60.

But beware of the one-day only holiday hype. JCPenney calls this their biggest Cyber Monday sale ever. Funny, that's what the Barnes and Noble marketing team came up with too. Wal Mart calls this Cyber Week, where you've got seven days of unbelievable specials.

As we clicked and clacked our way around, we noticed a cyber swell. This Monday madness now includes everything from clothes to website building.

In fact, this year the airlines are launching their own one-day deals. United wants your cyber spending as well, with San Francisco to San Diego at $39. If you book today, Jet Blue will fly you one way from San Diego to Boston or New York for $99.

Our cyber deal of the day is on Woot.com, where they are offering a digital camcorder for $17.99. We have no idea how they do that, or if it works.

When you shop online, use a credit card. With a debit card, the money is gone immediately. With a credit card you have more control if there is a problem.
