La Jolla home goes up in flames

Posted: Updated:

LA JOLLA, Calif. (CNS) - A fire of unknown origin destroyed a home in the La Jolla Shores area today, authorities reported.

The non-injury blaze in the 8300 block of La Jolla Shores Drive erupted shortly after 3:30 p.m., according to the San Diego Fire Rescue Department.

It took about 35 firefighters roughly 15 minutes to extinguish the flames, which apparently began spreading toward the rear of the residence, SDFRD spokesman Maurice Luque said.

The American Red Cross was summoned to help the residents of the home -- a 90-year-old man and his 50-year-old son -- arrange for interim lodging.

The cause of the blaze was under investigation.
