Mistrial declared in teacher molestation case

SAN DIEGO, Calif. (CBS 8) - A judge has declared a mistrial in the case of a fifth grade teacher accused of molesting two boys who were in her class.

Thirty-six-year-old Adrienne Feistel had been charged with 17 counts of committing a lewd act on a child.

Jurors deliberated for about four days before passing a note to Judge Richard Whitney saying they were deadlocked on 14 of the 17 charges.

Judge Whitney said today that a juror had watched media coverage of the trial and spoke to other jurors about it.

Jurors also said that a fellow juror told them she would use her heart to make her decision, instead of going by the evidence in the case.

Feistel faced several counts of committing lewd acts on a child. She is accused of molesting two children whose families she had befriended.

She faces nearly 31 years in prison if convicted on all counts.
