SAN DIEGO, Calif. (CBS 8) - A driver who was high on methamphetamine when he struck and killed a woman walking on a Sabre Springs sidewalk was sentenced Tuesday to six years in prison.

Carl William David, 36, admitted to using meth for three days straight when he drove into Sandra Kay Kennedy, 63, on Sabre Springs Parkway Oct. 14.

David was convicted of gross vehicular manslaughter. He faced a maximum of 10 years in prison.

According to defense attorney Troy Britt, David had been drug-free for the past four years, but relapsed due to a child custody case and medical problems.
