SAN DIEGO, Calif. (CBS 8) - Running games have always been crucial to a team's success, and for many years the Chargers enjoyed one of the best.
But the past couple of years has seen the offensive philosophy around the league change to pass-happy offenses. While the Chargers have an excellent one, quarterback Philip Rivers stresses the need for a running game.
"I do think it's necessary to be able to run the football to be the complete team that you need to be throughout the course of the season," Rivers said.
"Certainly this year and maybe in the past few years it's been more of a pass-happy league… but then it gets into crunch time and you have two backs in the backfield and two tight ends and you've got to sustain a drive."
The game this weekend against the Bengals could get blacked out, as tickets are still available.
