Seferina Marquez Ponce was taken into custody Wednesday in connection with the death of Sarah Reyes, an 18-year-old mother who was last seen going to the store to buy formula for her baby.
Police said Ponce was long considered a person of interest in Reyes' disappearance, but there was no body to prove a crime occurred. The case went cold until last year, when skeletal remains found in San Diego County in 2000 was identified as those of the young woman.
Detectives who re-examined evidence in the case said Ponce and Reyes had a dispute, but declined to elaborate further.
