New hearing scheduled for Merriam Mountains housing project

Posted: Updated:

SAN DIEGO, Calif. (CBS 8) - A controversial plan to build 2,700 new homes north of Escondido will get another chance for approval by the county Board of Supervisors.

The proposed Merriam Mountains project failed to get enough votes at the first hearing last month.

Supervisor Ron Roberts was absent from that meeting, and the vote ended in a tie. Friday morning Roberts filed a letter to schedule a new hearing with all supervisors present.

"Traffic, noise, development density - there's a whole series of issues that have come up, a long list, and I think those need to be reviewed and assessed to see if there are or are not solutions," Roberts said.

Public testimony will be allowed again at a hearing now expected in late February.
