Larry's take on the Chargers-Jets matchup

Posted: Updated:

SAN DIEGO, Calif. (CBS 8) - This is not exactly breaking news, but next Sunday the Chargers will host a geographically challenged team that claims to be from New York and actually plays across the river in a state best known for being the birthplace of Bruce Springsteen and the final resting place of parts of Jimmy Hoffa.

It's a classic Left Coast/Right Coast matchup, the Garden State versus the Golden State, "Biff and Skippy" versus Guido and Vinnie, the Big Apple versus Giant Avocado.

It's a slice of thin crust versus a fish taco, "The Real World" versus "The Jersey Shore", the Beach Boys versus the Four Seasons, which leads me to some interesting comparisons between the two locales.

The multi-award-winning play "The Jersey Boys" actually got its start in La Jolla and the Jets backup quarterback is from San Diego and Phillip Rivers was traded to the Chargers from another New York team that plays in New Jersey.

But that's where the similarities end. For example, the Jets have a player whose first name is D'Brickashaw. The closest the Chargers ever came to that was they once had a player named Pete Shaw.

But I'm warning you, from a guy who once spent a summer working in the tropical paradise of Paramus, New Jersey. Don't underestimate Jets fans. They may not know geography but they are good spellers, which they will prove on Sunday when they chant over and over again J-E-T-S Jets Jets Jets, although it's been shown that many of the fans actually write those letters on their hands to make sure that they spell it out correctly.

I'm like a kid on Christmas Eve. I can't wait for Sunday's game against the team from East Rutherford.
