Man involved in crash found dead in Rancho Santa Fe driveway

RANCHO SANTA FE, Calif. (CBS 8) -- The California Highway Patrol said a man whose body was found Sunday morning in the driveway of a Rancho Santa Fe home was involved in a nearby crash.

The body of well-known veterinarian Doctor Robert Stonebreaker, 53, was discovered just before 8 a.m. in the 6700 block of Paseo Delicias.

Investigators said Stonebreaker crashed his car down an embankment Saturday night, then made his way to a home about 2,000 feet away.

Officers responding to the crash Saturday night found no sign of the driver or any injuries at the scene.

An investigation into the man's death is underway.

Stonebreaker was the owner and CEO of Animal and Bird Hospital of Del Mar and FreeFlight, which is an exotic bird park that protects hundreds of bird species through public education and breeding programs. The park is also a boarding facility. Stonebreaker also volunteered for Project Wildlife.

Stonebreaker is survived by his wife, two daughters and son.
