The Counter - Building a better burger

Posted: Updated:

CARLSBAD, Calif. (CBS 8) - When it comes to ordering a burger at The Counter in Carlsbad, it's all about choices. Lots and lots of choices.

"It's 312,000. Some beg to differ, but we did the math. It's around 312,000 combinations," Charlotte Yoo said.

Here's a quick tutorial from owner Tom Yoo.

"Basically you start with proteins, then you move on to your cheeses, and we have 10 different cheeses. Then you can move on to our 28 toppings, from dried cranberries to spiced peperoncinis to sprouts.

"Then you move on to your sauces that we make all in the back, then you choose your bun," Tom said.

Just mark your menu and voice your choice. All of these possibilities on a bun are available with sides like French fries and sweet potato fries, and can all be washed down with a variety of handspun milkshakes.

We decided to randomly roll around the counter and put our own burger together starting with beef, blue cheese, spicy peperoncini, jalapenos, roasted red pepper, roasted green chilis and chipotle aioli on a hamburger bun.

The Counter offers tons of fun on a bun, a burger factory where "have it your way" takes on a whole new meaning.
