The changing face of Flinn Springs

Posted: Updated:

SAN DIEGO, Calif. (CBS 8) - If you had to describe Flinn Springs in one sentence, it would be "The more things change, the more they stay the same." Take Mary Etta's Café, for example.

"It pretty much stays the same, either in good economy or bad economy," a customer said.

Their faithful customers keep coming back for two reasons.

"Biscuits and gravy," a customer said.

After you've macked out on biscuits and gravy, what's next? Shannon Morgan leads a generation of new shop owners along Olde Highway 80.

"We're far from the beach, but there are a lot of people around here who like to wear nice jeans and like to go to the river, get a new suit," Shannon said.

It's all part of Flinn Springs' sexy makeover.

Flinn Springs' major attraction, Summers Past Farms, is frozen in time here. Sheryl and Marshall have preserved the way we were on a five-acre blooming parcel.

"We have a lot of people who just show up and take 10 minutes out of their day to have tea or coffee. It gives them some place to sit down and think and not to feel the pressure of the city," Marshall said.

Browsing the grounds and the gift shop, it's easy to remember when and hard to forget the time-honored blend of an idyllic day in Flinn Springs.
