Convicted sex offender arrested in San Diego area

Posted: Updated:

SAN DIEGO (AP) — Authorities say a convicted sex offender who had been deported from the U.S. has been arrested in San Diego County.

The Department of Homeland Security said Monday that the 53-year-old man, a Mexican citizen, was arrested Thursday night after he drove a semi-truck through a U.S. Border Patrol checkpoint on Interstate 8 near Alpine. The man continued to head west on the freeway and was eventually pulled over by a Border Patrol agent.

The department says the man is in federal custody and is facing charges for allegedly reentering the U.S. as a deported felon.
