CASTAIC, Calif. (AP) — Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies are hunting for two inmates who escaped from a Castaic jail.
Sheriff's spokesman Steve Whitmore says the men, who were in jail for armed robbery, may have escaped from the North County Correctional Facility at around 1 a.m. Wednesday.
Whitmore tells KTLA-TV that the men were discovered missing about two hours later when deputies made a head count of inmates.
He says they may have fled while working at a kitchen loading dock at the jail 40 miles north of downtown Los Angeles.
Whitmore says about 80 deputies are hunting for the men, who were arrested last year in Los Angeles.
