Brewer continues defending Arizona immigration law

Posted: Updated:

PHOENIX (AP) — A week after signing off on the state's tough immigration enforcement law, Gov. Jan Brewer continues to defend it and question why some want to boycott Arizona.

Brewer told KTVK-TV Friday that Arizonans are frustrated with illegal immigration and want something done about the state's porous border with Mexico.

Brewer said Arizonans want to feel safe and secure in their homes and that's why the state took action because the federal government has failed in its duties to secure the border.

The governor said Arizona is the gateway for criminals coming into the United States.

Brewer is also critical of boycotts against the state calling the current hysteria over the law unbelievable.

She said a boycott of Arizona would be unfortunate because it hurts the legal residents of Arizona.
