TV news employee in LA has $266M winning ticket

Posted: Updated:

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Los Angeles TV station KNBC says one of its newsroom employees is holding the Mega Millions lottery ticket worth $266 million.

Assignment manager David Reese says the newly-minted millionaire works as a freelancer on the assignment desk and called him Wednesday to share her good news.

Reese says the woman wants to maintain her privacy and asked her colleagues to keep her name a secret. She hasn't claimed her ticket yet.

He says the woman, whose husband was laid off from his job two weeks ago, told him she plans to come to work Thursday.

The winning ticket was sold at a barbecue restaurant in Pico Rivera.

Lottery officials say the odds of matching all six numbers drawn in Tuesday's multistate game is 1 in more than 175 million.
