"Spring Fling" event to match foster kids and Forever Families

Posted: Updated:

SAN DIEGO, Calif. (CBS 8) - There were undoubtedly some Adopt 8 love connections made Saturday at San Diego County Adoptions' annual Spring Fling event, where kids were able to just be themselves and have fun.

"It's also an opportunity to see kids show off their personality, and hopefully something clicks," Heidi Quiroz of San Diego County Adoptions said.

More than 50 children in foster care who are still waiting to find a Forever Family enjoyed the day with about 150 families who are looking to adopt.

Prospective families got a chance to play with kids in a fun setting with no pressure on either side at Admiral Baker Field. For families going through the adoption process, it's a chance to potentially find the perfect child for them.

"That's the missing piece for us. We have a home and we're ready," Christine Robbins said.

"We've had an empty house for a while, we've fostered and we've had a couple of kids in our home that we've loved and we've been fortunate to be able to send them back to their parents because things worked out for them. But unfortunately for these children that's not happening, and we would like to take them into our home so they can be in our home forever," Timothy Robbins said.

The annual Spring Fling is usually quite successful in finding matches for kids and families. Saturday's event and lunch is sponsored by the Health and Human Services Agency and Philip Rivers' new charity Rivers of Hope.
