Mothers hope for justice in murders of teenage boys

Posted: Updated:

SAN DIEGO, Calif. (CBS 8) - The News 8 CrimeFighters need your help to help the families of two boys gunned down in cold blood find justice.

On March 16, 2008, 15-year-old Donnell Davis and 16-year-old Brandon Johnson were shot and killed while riding in a gray Acura with two other teenagers at around midnight on Highway 54 at Briarwood Road in Bonita.

"Somebody came along on the freeway and just opened fire on the car and killed my son and Donnell," Charmaine Johnson said.

The driver of the Acura, wounded by a stray bullet, lost control and rolled over. Police have no description of the gunman's vehicle, but detectives do know the victims were returning home from a bowling alley in Chula Vista.

"Prior to them arriving there was an incident that occurred between two rival gangs. There was an argument, a dispute within that bowling alley. They were asked to leave," San Diego Sheriff's Department Sgt. Roy Frank said.

Investigators say the shooting victims were not gang members, and were not involved in the argument at the bowling alley.

"They walked into the bowling alley, probably there at the wrong time, and when they left there's potential that somebody would have followed them," Sgt. Frank said.

Two years later, detectives are hoping for a break in the case. The families are praying someone will come forward with a tip that leads to an arrest.

"There's no reason that a parent should have to sit with pain in their heart, and somebody is sitting in their living room knowing what happened to our boys. It's not right," Keshia Davis said.

Crime Stoppers is offering a $1,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest. Anyone with information is asked to call (888) 580-8477. You do not have to give your name to be eligible for reward money.
