Kit Carson Park in Escondido is home to a new attraction that is absolutely free. All it takes is a plastic disc and a love of the forest. News 8's Larry Himmel explains.

They fly thru the air with the greatest of ease. Swooping thru skies and bouncing off trees.
Flung by folks who are down on their knees, carried into the forest by a North County breeze.

Communing with nature is just part of the experience at the new disc golf course in Kit Carson Park.

Scott Lacer says, "There's no rentals here so you have your own disc when you show up. There's no snack bar, so we bring some beverages with us."

But for Scott, this Escondido course, which opened less than a month ago, has one big thing going for it.

Scott says, "Free. Free to the public. Free to everybody."

For Clark Jackson, wading into the thick underbrush after an errant disc, just heightens the experience. He remarks, "You're always in a park. You're in nature. You're throwing through trees. You're throwing into a tree. You've got obstacles. It's always a different course everywhere you go."

All you need is a couple of discs and the whole experience is just a walk in the park.

Jackson gives Larry Himmel some tips, "That's a midrange, more like a 9 through 5 iron. Then you've got the driver that are like your one woods or your woods."

While some disc golf go for the gusto, Latoya Padilla plays it right down the middle.

Latoya states, "My goal since I don't have the arm that this guy has. As long as I'm in the open and over the hill I'll be happy."

Other than the running streams and the crowded forest, this public park does create some other unique challenges.

Jackson adds, "The only thing you've got to worry about are the pedestrians and pedestrians have the right of way, so we've got to let them through. You've got obstacles all over."

Up by North County so fair, there's nature lover's lair, in a park where they share, a free fling with a flair, discs go here and go there, just another day without a care.
