SAN DIEGO (AP) — Republican Senate candidate Carly Fiorina says the government needs to get out of the way so businesses can spur economic growth across California and the nation.

The former Hewlett-Packard CEO picked a San Diego lumber yard for her first campaign stop Friday after capturing the GOP nomination in this week's primary election.

Analysts say Fiorina's biggest challenge in unseating longtime Democrat Sen. Barbara Boxer is winning over an electorate in November that disagrees with her on many issues, including her opposition to abortion.

Fiorina did not touch on those issues Friday.

She says Californians' No. 1 concern is the state's spiraling unemployment rate.
