SPRING VALLEY, Calif. (CBS 8) - A string of car thefts in the East County have residents on edge. One woman emailed the News 8 CrimeFighters after he husband's car was stolen right in front of their home.
It's called Dictionary Hill, an East County neighborhood in Spring Valley with steep streets and single-family homes. Car thieves are targeting the neighborhood, especially at night.
One resident emailed the News 8 CrimeFighters saying, "My husband's car was stolen today... They managed to take (his) Navy dress white uniform... his credit cards, driver's license, military ID, and a host of other items."
Other people living in the area told us the same thing.
"It's all over the place. Everybody talks about it. We find stolen cars," a resident said.
The News 8 CrimeFighters ran the numbers for car thefts on Dictionary Hill over the past 90 days. Our Crimetracker map shows 16 cars broken into and 33 cars stolen, all within the past three months.
"It's not surprising. I mean, the economy, everybody has to come up with money, so that's what they're going to do," a resident said.
Sheriff deputies advise residents not to leave valuables in cars, and to keep vehicles locked at all times to help prevent break-ins.
"People want what you've got and they're going to get it if they want it," a resident said.
