Miho Gastrotruck: Gourmet meals on wheels

SAN DIEGO, Calif. (CBS 8) - On a random street in a nondescript Sorrento Valley business park, an unadorned coach has set up shot, bringing handcrafted cuisine to an appreciative clientele.

"We're doing this because we want to bring good quality food to people and offer an alternative to something around here," Juan Miron said.

For the past months, Juan Miron and his crew of culinary whiz kids have been cruising San Diego neighborhoods in the Miho Gastrotruck.

"We mostly are focusing on lunches and late-evening spots," Juan said.

The gastrotruck is social network driven.

"We put out a weekly menu to tell people where we are going to be at," Juan explained.

Miho's menu is far from ordinary.

"The inspiration for it is international street food and our background comes from local sustainable. We try to use as much of local produce as possible. We support the local farms and we us all-natural sustainable meats.

"We make everything by hand. We don't buy anything processed. It's real food. The flavors are really present. It's fresh. We're doing it all in here. We prep in a kitchen, we load it all up in the truck and we came here," Juan said.

The menu is extremely edible and slightly edgy.

"One of the things that we really are proud of is our poutine," Juan said.

Hand-cut, twice-fried potatoes served with wild mushroom gravy and all-natural cheddar cheese.

"We also have our grass-fed burger, it's served with Bread and Cie bread, bib leaf lettuce, caramelized onions and then all-natural white cheddar cheese," Juan said.

"Two dishes that we just rolled out this week are a pesto BLT and a mozzarella, lettuce and tomato," he said.

Their bill of fare will change with the seasons.

"We're in the process of switching it up, so it's not going to always have the same kind of stuff," Juan said.

The Miho Gastrotruck will continue to cruise the streets of San Diego in search of locals who like their gourmet cuisine curbside.
