Padres activate Stairs and Stauffer from DL

Posted: Updated:

SAN DIEGO (AP) — The San Diego Padres activated outfielder-infielder Matt Stairs and right-hander Tim Stauffer from the 15-day disabled list.

Stairs has been out since June 6 with a knee injury, and Stauffer was sidelined on May 11 after undergoing an emergency appendectomy.

In corresponding moves Thursday, the Padres optioned outfielder Aaron Cunningham to Triple-A Portland and designated right-hander Sean Gallagher for assignment.

Stairs was hitting .191 in 32 games for the Padres prior to the injury, mostly as a pinch-hitter, with one home run and seven RBI.

Stauffer, a former first-round draft pick by the Padres, has gone 2-1 with a 0.39 ERA in 10 relief appearances this season.

Gallagher made 15 relief appearances, and had no record with a 5.40 ERA.
