LOS ANGELES (AP) — A police detective has testified that drug bottles were seized in the Florida hotel room where the former Playboy model died of an overdose in 2007.

Katherine Frank was the first witness to take the stand Thursday in Los Angeles in the drug conspiracy trial of Smith's lawyer-boyfriend, Howard K. Stern, and two doctors.

Prosecutors accuse them of conspiring to provide massive amounts of opiates and painkillers to Smith but they aren't accused of causing her death.

The detective says Stern fell to his knees and wept in the Hollywood, Fla., hotel room where police seized drug bottles and a duffel bag containing thousands in cash.

Smith's bodyguard — one of the last people to see her alive — is expected to testify later in the day.
