LONDON (AP) — A little-known author is suing British comic Ricky Gervais for allegedly stealing his ideas when he wrote his successful "Flanimals" children's book.
Forty-four-year-old John Savage says Gervais' work is based on his 1998 book "Captain Pottie's Wildlife Encyclopedia."
Flanimals features a medley of bizarre-looking cartoon beasts with names such as Underblenge, Plamglotis, and Grundit.
Documents filed in London's High Court claims that Flanimals was "broadly the same in content and character" as Savage's book.
A spokeswoman for Gervais said Wednesday that the dispute is long-running.
She says that the comic, who is best known as the co-creator and star of the British version of "The Office," disputes the claims.
