OCEANSIDE (CNS) - A man was struck by a freight train car Monday night in Oceanside and airlifted to Scripps Memorial Hospital, La Jolla,.

The incident was reported at 8:21 p.m. in the 200 block of Wisconsin Avenue, an Oceanside Fire dispatch supervisor said.

The freight train had two Burlington Northern Santa Fe locomotives on the front end and about 10 tanker and box cars, a video news cameraman reported from the scene. The freight train stopped down-track from the incident scene.

The man was trying to catch his dog, which was struck and killed by a locomotive, and the man was apparently struck by a car at the end of the train.
