Five hikers rescued from remote trail in Ramona

RAMONA (CNS) - Five women were safe Wednesday after being rescued from a dark hiking trail in a remote area of Ramona, authorities said.

One of the women used her cell phone to call for help around 9 p.m. Tuesday, after the group had lost their way while hiking from a housing development known as San Diego Country Estates to Cedar Creek Falls, said San Diego County sheriff's Deputy Scott Bligh.

The caller informed authorities that one of her friends, a 20-year-old woman, appeared to be suffering from heat exhaustion and could go no farther, he said.

A sheriff's helicopter flew all five of the women to safety, according to Bligh.
