Fire destroys businesses at strip mall near Miramar Rd

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A two-alarm fire broke out at a commercial building in Sorrento Mesa Thursday, but there were no reports of injuries, San Diego Fire-Rescue Department dispatchers said.

The fire was reported at about 2:30 a.m. at Hi-Q Environmental Products Co. at 7386 Trade St., dispatchers said.

About a dozen fire engines and trucks were dispatched to the fire, which was extinguished by about 4 a.m., according to the SDFRD dispatchers.

Before the fire was put out, flames could be seen shooting out of the roof of the one-story structure.

Investigators were working to determine the cause of the blaze, dispatchers said.

The scope of the damage to the building was not immediately known, but SDFRD spokesman Maurice Luque told News 8 that the roof of the building had collapsed and there was "extensive damage" to the interior.
