Dozens evacuated after gas main ruptured in Rolando

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - About 45 residents of two streets in the Rolando neighborhood were evacuated Monday after a construction crew ruptured a natural gas main, according to the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department.

The construction crew was cutting across a sidewalk and struck the 3/4-inch pipe at 4652 Valencia Drive around 1:50 p.m., said Maurice Luque of the SDFRD.

He said residents of that block of Valencia Drive, and the cross street of Lenore Drive, were evacuated.

A San Diego Gas & Electric crew was repairing the line so the residents could return home, Luque said.
