Public can weigh in on Interstate 5 expansion

Posted: Updated:

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - San Diegans are being invited to give their two cents Tuesday on a plan to expand Interstate 5. Caltrans is holding a public hearing on the project.

The project starts at La Jolla Village Drive in La Jolla and ends 27 miles later at Vandegrift Boulevard in Oceanside. This will add more freeway and carpool lanes. And, according to Caltrans, the expansion will ease gridlock traffic.

However, some opponents say that the plan will backfire because it may bring more commuters to Interstate 5 and as a result, more traffic.

Tuesday's public hearing is being held at Skyline Elementary School in Solana Beach, which is located at 606 Lomas Santa Fe Drive. The hearing begins at 5 p.m. in the school activity room.
