Emotional testimony from stabbing victim in actor's trial

Posted: Updated:

The victim of a repeated stabbing gave emotional testimony in court Tuesday, in the trial of an actor who appeared in "The 40-Year-Old Virgin." Shelley Malil is on trial for allegedly stabbing his ex-girlfriend, Kendra Beebe, 23 times at her home in San Marcos.

Beebe testified that she thought she was going to die when Malil slashed her repeatedly with a knife, then came back for a second attack. Prosecutors showed the court graphic pictures of Beebe's injuries taken at the hospital.

But in opening statements Monday, a defense attorney said Malil didn't plan the attack and acted in self-defense.

The 45-year-old could face life in prison if convicted of attempted murder, burglary and assault with a deadly weapon. Malil is accused of stabbing Beebe with a steak knife in 2008, after he found her drinking wine outside her San Marcos home with a male friend.

The prosecutor says the friend wrested the knife from Malil, threw it over a fence and ran to dial 911. Malil allegedly grabbed a butcher knife from the kitchen and continued stabbing Beebe.

Malil played co-worker Haziz to Steve Carell's title character in "The 40-Year-Old Virgin."
