San Diego places bid to host the World Cup

SAN DIEGO, Calif. (CBS 8) – FIFA begins its trip to the U.S. to inspect possible sites for upcoming World Cup tournaments.

San Diego is one of many cities bidding to host the World Cup.

Officials are on their way to New York City to attend a bidding reception.

Rules limit the delegates to spending only 72 hours in each country.

18 U.S. cities will meet in New York to place their bids for 2018 and 2022. The last time the World Cup was played in the U.S. was in 1994.

A decision is expected December 2nd.
