UPDATE: Northbound lanes open on I-805 in South Bay

CHULA VISTA (CNS) - The northbound lanes of the 805 freeway have been reopened, following a freeway closure after a tanker truck jackknifed and plowed into a guardrail, spilling jet fuel onto the roadway.

The crash happened around 10:45 a.m. near the E Street exit in Chula Vista, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Northbound traffic was diverted onto surface streets at Telegraph Canyon Road, CHP Officer Jesse Udovich said.

He said the closure would remain in place at least until mid-afternoon and could last the rest of the day, depending on how difficult the cleanup turns out to be.

Udovich said he did not know if the truck driver was injured

He said it appeared the vehicle slid out of control and crashed. Rain fell in the area during the morning and could make the cleanup more extensive.

"What we don't want is that jet fuel to get into the storm drains," Udovich said.
