SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Around 40 homes were evacuated for about an hour Monday after a construction crew hit a natural gas line in a North Park alley.
The break happened around 9:30 a.m. in an alley along Polk Avenue, between Kansas and 30th streets, said Maurice Luque of the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department.
Evacuees were allowed to return to their homes a little more than an hour later when the leak was capped, Luque said. No one was hurt.
Repair crews checking the broken gas line found a crack in an adjoining pipe, which will also have to be fixed, Luque said.
