Whitman visits San Diego; has no second thoughts about attack ads

Posted: Updated:

SAN DIEGO (AP) — California GOP gubernatorial candidate Meg Whitman says she has no second thoughts about refusing to pull attack advertising during the final week of her campaign.

Whitman told reporters Wednesday in San Diego that she will take aim at Democrat Jerry Brown's record as governor from 1975 to 1983 and later as mayor of Oakland.

She spoke a day after a joint appearance with Brown at a women's conference during which "Today" show host Matt Lauer asked if they would agree to pull negative ads. Many in the audience booed when Whitman said she would continue to highlight Brown's record.

Whitman says she would not handle the question any differently today.
