Suspect arrested in attack on school board candidate

IMPERIAL BEACH (CNS) - One of two men accused of attacking a Sweetwater Union High School board candidate at a Jack in the Box in Imperial Beach was behind bars Thursday.

Andrew Fisak, 25, was arrested Wednesday at his workplace in Coronado on suspicion of battery with serious injury in connection with the attack on Andrew Valencia, according to San Diego County sheriff's Detective Charles Vorce.

Valencia told deputies he was jumped by two men at about 1:35 a.m. last Sunday while standing at the drive-thru window at the Jack in the Box at 890 Palm Ave. The 30-year-old Valencia sustained a large cut to his lip and possibly a fractured tooth, Vorce said.

The motive for the alleged attack was under investigation.

Valencia, who is hoping to unseat school board president Arlie Ricasa, told reporters he believed his attackers were trying to stop him from exposing district and campaign corruption, going as far as to call the incident "scripted."
