Probationer involved in fatal police shooting in court Thursday

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - The probationer who authorities wanted to check on last week when a San Diego police officer was fatally shot is scheduled to make an appearance in court Thursday on an alleged probation violation, the District Attorney's Office announced.

Probation officers and federal marshals went to a Skyline area apartment the night of Oct. 17 looking for Alex Ray Charfauros, 26, touching off a series of events that led to 50-year-old Officer Christopher Wilson being shot in the head.

Wilson, a 17-year-veteran, died at Scripps Mercy Hospital. His funeral is also scheduled for Thursday.

Two others were later found dead in a bedroom of the apartment. Authorities said Holim Lee, 30, committed suicide and Lucky Xayasene, 27, was fatally shot -- but it will not be known by whom until ballistics testing is completed.

Police say the probation officers and marshals went to the complex on S. Meadowbrook Drive to make a compliance check on Charfauros, but the door to the apartment was slammed shut on them.

The agents forced entry and arrested Charfauros, but also saw another man run into a back bedroom, police said. Charfauros was taken away and San Diego police officers were called in to help.

The shots were fired when Wilson and several other SDPD officers kicked down the bedroom door. Officers returned fire and carried the mortally wounded Wilson outside.

SWAT officers surrounded the apartment and, when they went in at about 6:45 a.m., the bodies of Lee and Xayasene were discovered.
