It could have rained... but it didn't. It could have been cold... but it wasn't. The economy could have kept the numbers down... but that just didn't happen. Instead it was a beautiful, sunny morning in Balboa Park and 6th Avenue was filled with thousands of runners and walkers of all ages with one common goal - to raise money to support those with breast cancer and fund research to find a cure.
Thanks to all those who stopped by the KFMB tent this morning to say hello and pick up a ribbon pin or one of the beautiful pink ribbon scarves we handed out this year. And so nice to have our friends from Jack FM beside us keeping everyone entertained with games and prizes until it was time to head to the starting line.
As for the opening ceremony - what an inspiration! This year's honorary survivor, Irene Oberbauer, shared her amazing, emotional story with the crowd and introduced us to her wonderful husband and sons and her beautiful mother - all there lending their support. What a great family.
Once again I was lucky enough to share the race emcee duties with the always charming Rudy Novotny whose passion for the cause is evident in the way he tries to greet each and ever team at the starting line - and the way he cheers them on at the finish line. Rudy, you rock!
Thanks to everyone who participated and all the wonderful volunteers who made this event not only happen... but once again made it a huge success. And for those of you who are now in the final two weeks of training for the 3 Day... keep walking and I look forward to seeing you on the 19th!
