Sewage spill triggers North County environmental alert

Posted: Updated:

SAN DIEGO, Calif. (CBS 8) – There is an environmental alert in the North County due to a 5,400 gallon sewage spill.

The spill happened Saturday night when a pipeline broke at the Meadowlark Water Reclamation Facility on South Rancho Sante Fe Road in San Marcos.

The sewage flowed into San Marcos creek, which empties into Batiquitos lagoon in Carlsbad.

Warning signs have been put up at the lagoon and will remain in place until samples confirm the water is safe again for recreational use.
