Kandy & Cesar's birthday wish is to find a forever family

Posted: Updated:

San Diego County Adoptions does its best to keep siblings together, but it's not always possible. And that's why this Adopt 8 is bittersweet - there's happiness for two boys who have been placed into a permanent home. But heartbreak for Kandy and Cesar who are hoping their turn is next.

When we met them two years ago, there was hope that Kandy and her three little brothers would find one forever family.

"I know there is a family out there that would like to say, ‘we would love to take all four children,'" Protective Services Worker Gisella Aguilar said.

Unfortunately, that didn't happen and while the two youngest boys have been matched with a forever family, the two oldest Kandy and Cesar are still waiting. To make things even harder, nine-year-old Kandy and eight-year-old Cesar are living in different foster homes.

"We need to find a family that can take both brother and sister together," Aguilar continued.

They've been left to wonder why they have been left behind.

"It's just very difficult for them to understand that their brothers are going to be adopted by another family," said Aguilar.

But even with all of the changes life has dealt Kandy these past two years, she still remembers the day we first met her in 2008. She remembers that she was wearing a shirt that said "Girls just want to have fun."

And life would be even more fun, if she and Cesar could live under the same roof again. They share a bond that is simply heartwarming. Kandy says Cesar bought her a Tinkerbell book and is a good brother.

And, Cesar says he buys her gifts, because he loves her and it makes her so happy.

With no family of their own, these two have to look out for each other. But they agree the best gift of all would be to be together.

With Kandy's birthday the day after our play date and Cesar's the day after that, it was the perfect time to make their birthday wish.

And we're hoping the year ahead will be their best one yet with a forever family to call their own.

"Our goal is to find an adoptive family who can take both Kandy and Cesar and provide them with that family that they want to belong to and to give them a chance they deserve a big chance in life," explained Aguilar.
