Black Friday deals coming out early this year

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - It's not even Thanksgiving yet, but some people are already getting a jump on their holiday shopping. Retailers are ready for them, with many stores offering early Black Friday deals to lure in customers.

Just 2 weeks till Hanukkah -- 8 gifts for 8 crazy nights, and I haven't even started shopping for my wife. Seriously, I haven't bought a thing. Lucky for me, I've got a plan.

Black Friday ads for Kohl's, Sears and Target are already online.

"They're trying to build buzz for one. They're trying to get a jump on the competition," SDSU marketing professor Dr. Michael Belch said.

Doctor Belch says the earlier these ads come out, the better for you.

"Now, with 10 days ahead, I can do some shopping. I can shop those prices and see if it's available at one store, will it be available at another, is it actually a deal?" Dr. Belch said.

If nothing else, releasing the ads this early should give you lots of great ideas. When you go through the ads, Professor Belch says make sure you really read the fine print.

Around the newsroom, we all know Marcella Lee is a super shopper, so here's a tip I got from her that'll save you money this holiday season and beyond: sign up for Ebates, then every time you shop online for things you'd buy anyway, do it through their website. You'll get 2, 4, even 6 percent and more back on your purchases. You do nothing else, and every 3 months they send you a check.
