Like the thousands of other like-minded San Diegans, it's the story of another individual ready to blister up and struggle through a 60-mile weekend waltz to help cure - once and for all - breast cancer in our lifetime.
20.3 miles today, and what a great day for a walk! Cloudy and cool, not too damp, conditions that should be repeated tomorrow but won't be. I had a chance to meet many people, including Delores from San Diego who's done ten of these - she finished just before me coming into camp today - and a friend from Carlsbad, too, who is walking for many reasons. . .including her friend who was supposed to be walking with her but was recently diagnosed and is now in chemotherapy. What a great group of people this is.
What struck me most of all was all along the way, the shops and people who had treats and water out for everyone - it was so inspiring. More coming in a few minutes - I'm about to do more stretching. But Day 1 made a fantastic impression on me and I'm looking forward to tomorrow even with the rain.
