New Kensington neon sign hanging over Adams Avenue

SAN DIEGO, Calif. (CBS 8) - People in Kensington are celebrating the return of a historic landmark.

A replica of Kensington's famous neon gateway sign was suspended over Adams Avenue.

The original sign, which is classified as a local historic site, was taken down back in 2008 to undergo much-needed repairs.

But the sign's structural integrity was in bad shape, so a replica was created.

Now, the new Kensington neon sign is back up and better than ever. The original Kensington neon sign first went up over Adams Avenue in 1953.
