Thieves target Mission Valley ATM for 2nd time in two weeks

Posted: Updated:

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Would-be thieves attempted to steal an automated teller machine from a credit union in Mission Valley early Monday, police said.

The attempted robbery at the University and State Employees Credit Union at 8889 Rio San Diego Drive was reported about 2:50 a.m., according to San Diego police Officer David Stafford.

An unknown number of would-be thieves backed a vehicle through the credit union's door and put a strap around the ATM, he said, adding that though it was damaged, the cash dispenser remained anchored and the group got away empty-handed.
