SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A North Park woman hospitalized under police guard Tuesday is expected to face a murder charge in the stabbing death of her physician husband, a homicide detective said.
Officers sent to a condominium in the 3700 block of Grim Avenue shortly before sunrise Monday to check on a 41-year-old surgeon who failed to show up at Balboa Naval Medical Center for several days, San Diego police homicide Lt. Kevin Rooney said.
Officers got no response and broke in to find the dead man on the floor near his bloodied 42-year-old wife.
Medics took the woman to a trauma center, where she underwent surgery for multiple stab wounds. She is expected to survive, though she remains in serious condition, Rooney said.
Police refused to name the couple, but neighbors told the San Diego Union-Tribune he was Dr. Frederick Trayers. His wife was identified as Jennifer Trayers.
Detectives believe the man may have been killed as early as Saturday, the lieutenant said. It is unclear when his wife was wounded or if her injuries were self-inflicted, he said.
"We have no reports from neighbors of a fight, so we don't know what prompted this," Rooney said.
The couple had no children, the lieutenant said.
