Maisonnette: The fabric of Oceanside

Posted: Updated:

OCEANSIDE (CBS 8) - Step inside Maisonnette and you'll see that beauty and creativity run deep in the Warr family. Mom Ava and daughters Madeline and Natalie have converted the 1925 craftsman cottage into a cozy boutique where fabric, design and art stay close to the heart.

"It's a very cool little house. I actually saw it and told the real estate agent I'm going to have to have it, called my husband and said, 'I bought a house,'" Ava said.

Alongside the homemade jewelry and works of local artists, Maisonnette offers Ava's daughters a place to pursue their passions.

"Madeline has sewed forever. I tried to get her out of it, but she insisted on it and we couldn't find the kind of fabric that we wanted around town," Ava said. "We thought there was a real need for that and we kind of got an idea to open a place."

Maisonnette offers a wide array of imported material.

"I do private lessons, so if (customers) have any questions we can schedule a private lesson," Madeline said.

Maisonnette is also home to sister Natalie's photography studio.

"I specialize in kids and newborns, I love what I do," Natalie said. "I was a nanny for two years, so that gave me a lot of good experience for what I'm doing now, working with kids. I absolutely love it."

In Oceanside on the corner of Freeman Street and Surfrider Way, two sisters and their mom have woven the fabric of family into a fashionable future.
