Posted: Updated:

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A suspect was identified Monday in a stabbing and attempted robbery at a convenience store in the South Bay.

Around 3:50 a.m. last Monday, 19-year-old Ruben Moreno allegedly went into a Circle K store at 2036 Dairy Mart Road, used a knife to threaten a cashier and demanded cash.

Moreno did not obtain cash from the clerk and instead robbed a customer, San Diego police allege. Moreno allegedly stabbed the clerk several times after the employee intervened in the robbery.

The cashier underwent several hours of surgery for injuries that were life-threatening.

A warrant was issued for Moreno, who is charged with one count each of murder, attempted robbery and robbery.

Anyone with information about Moreno's whereabouts was asked to contact the San Diego Police Department at (619) 531-2000 or San Diego County CrimeStoppers at (888) 580-8477.
