San Diego animal authorities look for dog's killer

Posted: Updated:

SAN DIEGO (AP) — San Diego authorities say a German shepherd left a blood trail that stretched several blocks after the dog was fatally stabbed more than 50 times in the stomach, chest and throat.

Department of Animal Services spokesman Dan DeSousa told the San Diego Union-Tribune that a $4,500 reward is being offered for information that leads to an arrest and conviction.

DeSousa says the 9-month shepherd mix put up a huge fight but finally died in some bushes Saturday morning on Rosecrans Street in the Point Loma area.

DeSousa says it appears a knife with a one-inch blade was used and he figures the attacker probably has scratches and bites.

DeSousa says pooling in the blood trail shows the dog staggered, collapsed, got up, staggered and collapsed several times.
